DEMO Africa application deadline extended

The DEMO Africa Team has extended the application deadline from 17th August to 31st August 2012. This provides two more weeks to startups who still want to be considered to launch at the DEMO Africa stage.

According to the Hana Kefela, the DEMO Africa Project Manager, the extension was a request to the many startups in Africa who needed a bit more time to put their application information in order. “We have decided to extend the deadline to give time to the startups that have requested for more time,” Kefela said.

“We want to give everyone an opportunity to apply to launch and would not want to leave anyone out of the process,” said Harry Hare, the DEMO Africa Executive Producer. To date more than 150 applications have been received and with the extension, this number is expected to hit the 200 mark.

Only 40 startups will be able to launch at DEMO Africa and another 15 pre-product pitches will be selected from student groups and the Startup Weekend process. “We will have the best of the best from Africa launching at DEMO Africa, and this is very exciting to use,” Hare continued. “We will be able for the first time show the world what Africa is made up of,” he concluded.

Immediately after the deadline, the vetting process will begin and the 40 startups to launch will be announced within two weeks. These will then be prepared by the DEMO Africa Team to launch in front of the investors, the media, technology buyers and other entrepreneurs.
